During ARU Welcome Week, the team from Adobe very kindly gave me a free student log in to their extensive range of tools and gizmos – together with some cute little badges and a rather fetching cross body bag.

I had my first nose around the site last night comforted by their advice that “You can’t break anything”. Maybe they don’t know the level of my technical ability …

Any way, there were bits I couldn’t get to work, others I didn’t quite understand but, nothing daunted, I have it a shot. As Thomas Edison put it, “I have not failed. I’ve just found 10,000 ways that won’t work”. So much more affirming than “If at first you don’t succeed, destroy all evidence that you tried”! I’m loving this new learning mindset.

I’m leading a Harvest Festival service on an *actual* farm on Sunday and was putting the order of service together and decided to use my new tool to make a little booklet for the congregation. And here it is …

I am quite pleased with this creation – it’s a reminder of one of the key reasons I decided to apply for a place on the Digital Media Production degree course at ARU. There’s a frustrated creative within me bursting to get out 🥳

It’s also given me hope that even though I’ve never used Adobe – and much more tech – beside, just a few minutes of playing has enabled me to create something I’m proud of and I can see so much potential as I learn how to use the media properly and professionally.

“I am always doing that which I cannot do, in order that I may learn how to do it.” said Pablo Picasso which is a much better way to say that this old dog is *loving* learning new tricks. Thanks Adobe.
