THE VICTORIAN’ — A Smart Bike for 2085 Part 1

Reimagining the Bicycle as a Futuristic and Environmentally Friendly Victorian-Style Personal and Family Transport for the 22nd Century

Since learning to ride a bicycle at a young age – not exactly sure when I learned – it has been a machine I have loved riding. I have no technical or mechanical knowledge and can barely fix a puncture, but I love to cycle. I believe it is something that (almost) anyone can do and I also believe that while it was invented at around the same time – somewhat surprisingly – as the more ubiquitous internal combustion engine it has a more sustainable future and that in one form or another, the bicycle will remain long after the car has fallen into memory.

The only annual sporting event I follow every year is the Tour de France and I am a particular fan of Tadej Pogačar (born 21 September 1998), nicknamed “Pogi”, is a Slovenian professional cyclist. In 2085, Pogi is 87 years old and still riding the tour, I am 118 but still managing to puff and pant up the occasional hill on ‘THE VICTORIAN’ my new Smart Bike …

PROJECT OBJECTIVE

“To design a speculative piece of digital media that reimagines the Safety Bicycle (c. 1885) as ‘THE VICTORIAN’ a revolutionary 2085 smart bike for a post-car, climate-restored world where cycling has evolved into the primary mode of human transport, exercise, social connection, and even consciousness expansion.”

The images in this post were created for me by Midjourney with a prompt to reimagine the bicycle as something futuristic.
