
Earlier today, the year got underway at Anglia Ruskin University – at Cambridge Campus in the city’s East Road. After a tour of the University’s IT suite, work for Digital Media Production students began with the team of new students working on a course manifesto.
The twelve students, with advice from tutors Emily and Tina, began by brainstorming what good looks like for a manifesto – or ground rules – for the group before coming together to negotiate and prioritise the key issues for the year ahead.

The agreed list of five shared manifesto points are on display at Cambridge College of Art Building at ARU in room Rus 137 and have the strap line, ‘If in doubt, don’t crash out’.

The dictionary definition of ‘Manifesto’ is “A written statement declaring publicly the intentions, motives or views of it’s issuer”. After generations of failed promises by politicians, many people are cynical about whether the word really means that any longer but advertising straplines like Ronseal’s ‘It does what it says on the tin’ pledge or Tesco’s commitment to make shopping better, simpler and cheaper – through it’s slogan ‘Every Little Helps’ proves that a simple, short and memorable phrase can enter everyday language as well as set customer expectations of their products and services.
