The Key Points
I’ll outline the details of my personal manifesto for my first year as a Student in the BA(Hons) Digital Media Production course in the video posted below, but I’d like to start with an outline of the key elements of my manifesto – while in themselves, they may not be ‘box office’ they represent the journey of learning an exploration I hope to take in this first year. I can’t wait and I’m delighted that we’ve, finally, got this show on the road!

Nick’s Manifesto
The Details of My Manifesto
1. Learning with Courage and Curiosity
- I come to this course as a mature student with decades of life experience.
- I will not be afraid to ask questions, to admit when I don’t know, and to learn from those younger than me.
- I will approach each project as an experiment, a chance to discover what creativity and digital storytelling can unlock.
2. Authenticity at the Core
- My studies are not only about skills but about becoming more fully myself.
- I will seek ways for my projects to reflect honesty, queerness, and human dignity.
- I want my work to give voice to people and stories too often overlooked.
3. Community and Collaboration
- I will value the perspectives of every classmate and tutor, recognising that creativity flourishes in dialogue.
- I will contribute with generosity, bringing humour, kindness, and encouragement into group work.
- Collaboration will be a practice of trust — giving and receiving feedback openly.
4. Resilience and Growth
- I accept that mistakes, setbacks, and failures are part of learning.
- Instead of hiding them, I will use them as material for growth.
- I will balance hard work with self-care, knowing that my mental and physical health are foundations for creativity.
5. Joy and Playfulness
- I will allow myself to be playful with media, trying new forms without fear.
- I will celebrate small wins — completing a scene, editing a sequence, learning a new tool.
- Joy will be my energy: if I lose sight of it, I will pause, breathe, and return to why I began.
6. Looking Outward, Dreaming Forward
- I will connect my learning with the wider world — my village, my Progressive Christian ministry, queer community, and dreams of a bookshop café.
- Each project is not only for assessment but also a stepping stone toward the work I want to do after uni.
- By the end of this year, I want to have created something that feels like “me” — authentic, inclusive, and hopeful.
Closing Statement:
I enter this year with openness, humility, and excitement. My manifesto is not a fixed rulebook but a living promise: to keep learning bravely, creating truthfully, and sharing joyfully.
